まずはハロウィンについて知ろう！
ハロウィンは毎年10月31日に行われます。
Halloween is celebrated on the 31st of October every year.
ケルト人の収穫感謝祭であるサウィン祭が起源で、キリスト教カトリックに取り入れられました。
The origin of Halloween comes from a celtic harvest festival called “Samhin”, which was adopted by the Catholic community.
その後、キリスト教諸聖人の日に制定され、その前夜祭りが訛ってハロウィンと呼ばれるようになりました。
Samhin was selected as an “All Saint’s day” by the Christian community and as time went by, the eve of Samhin, which was called “All hallow’s eve” gradually changed its name to Halloween.
ハロウィンが近づくと、蜘蛛や蜘蛛の巣など、家に飾りつけをします。
When it is around the season of Halloween, people decorate their houses with spiders and spider webs.
ハロウィンの前には生のかぼちゃをくりぬいて「ジャック・オー・ランタン」を作ります
People also make Jack o' Lanterns by scooping out the inside of pumpkins.
「ジャック・オー・ランタン」は、ランタンを持つ男を意味します。
Jack o' Lantern means “A guy who is holding a lantern”
「ジャック・オー・ランタン」は悪霊を寄せつけないためにハロウィンの晩に家の玄関におきます。
People put Jack o' lanterns in front of their houses on the night of Halloween to avoid ghosts coming in.
ハロウィンの夜、子供たちは魔女やお化けに仮装して、近くの家々を訪れます。
On the night of Halloween, children dress up as witches or ghosts and visit their neighbours.
子供達は「お菓子をくれないといたずらしちゃうぞ」といいながら、家々を訪れてお菓子をもらいます。
The children visit their neighbours and say “Trick or Treat” to get some candy.
ハロウィンでメインのコスチュームは、魔女、コウモリ、ゾンビ、ドラキュラや狼男ですが、最近ではディズニーキャラクターやマリリンモンローなどの往年の女優など、バラエティ豊な仮装をみかけます。
Though people usually wear costumes like witches, bats, zombies, dracula or werewolves on Halloween, we also see people wearing unique costumes such as Disney characters, Marilyn Monroe or other famous celebrities.
日本でもここ10年で、ハロウィンは欠かせない年中行事のひとつとなり、主に大人達が仮装をして街を練り歩きます。
Within the past ten years, Halloween has also become a huge event in Japan, and we see many adults wearing costumes walking around every year.
ハロウィンの夜、仮装した大人達は特に東京の六本木で多く見かけることができます。
In Tokyo, you can see many adults in costumes around Roppongi.
