Then when the clock turn to midnight New years.

正月が明けたとたん

We heard shooting sounds out side.

外から発砲音が鳴り響きました

We checked outside and we found out that  a lot of neighbors  were doing fireworks.

外をチェックしてみたら、近所の至る所で打ち上げ花火が上がっていたんです

We thought a robbery was shooting by our neighbors.

旦那と私はてっきり正月早々、近所で強盗事件でも起こったのかと思ってしまいました

Because of the dry weather in Arizona, we are allowed to do fireworks only two time in the year.

アリゾナでは乾燥地帯で火事になりやすいため、花火は一年の内に２回だけ許可されています

4th of July and Christmas to New Years.

７月４日の独立記念日とクリスマスから元旦にかけての間です

With only two times a year for firework, many families enjoy fireworks. 

年に２回だけのチャンスなので、多くの家族が花火を買ってどんどん打ち上げています

I did  not know that in the USA, many people don't mind the noise of fireworks in the middle of the night. 

In Japan, fireworks are not done in the middle of the night.

日本では真夜中に打ち上げ花火などの音を聞くことはあまり無いので、アメリカでは多くの人が真夜中の花火の音を気にしないことにびっくりしました

In the past (15 years ago) in Arizona, it was not illegal to shoot guns for celebrations to make noise, and was actually very common.

１５年前までのアリゾナでは、お祝いのために銃の音を使うことは法律では禁止されていませんでした

Also in Arizona, it is not illegal to open carry a gun anywhere in the state, except for schools, bars, post offices, and federal buildings.

ここでは一般的なことだったそうです

またアリゾナでは、学校、飲み場（バー）郵便局、その他国が管理する建物以外では、銃をどこに持ち歩くことは禁止されていません
