As Okuni became popular,
many imitators appeared, including "Yujo-kabuki" (courtesans' Kabuki,
or women's Kabuki), performed
by "yujo" (prostitutes) & "Wakashu-kabuki" (
young men's Kabuki), performed
by boy actors
who did
not undergo genpuku (the coming-of-age
ceremony for boys) yet.
