② 年輩の上司が若い社員に夢を語る

♠：John, what is your dream going forward?　

ジョン、貴方の今後の夢は何ですか？（going forwardは未来の話題だと示す時に使う表現。文末につけることが多い）

♦：Well, my dream would be to spend as much time as possible visiting unique and interesting places of the world.

そうだな、私の夢は世界のユニークで面白い観光地にできるだけ沢山行くことだ。（時間なのでmuch）

♠：That sounds interesting.　

面白そうですね。

♦：I already have been to the major tourist destinations of the world such as London, Paris, Rome, Kyoto and Beijing in the past.

私は既にロンドン、パリ、ローマ、京都や北京のようなメジャーな観光地には行った事がある。

♠：Gee, you already are a world traveler.

えー、もうすでに世界を股にかけた旅行者ですね。

♦：Now, I am quite attracted to the unexplored places of the world. But I might be a bit too old for that, since it takes some physical strength.

今は、世界の秘境みたいな場所に行って見たいが、体力的な事もあり、ちょっと歳を取り過ぎているかも知れない。

♠：Where would be some of those places you’d like to visit?

どういう場所に行って見たいのですか？

♦：I have always enjoyed learning more about the interesting places such as Cappadocia, Turkey and Kathmandu, Nepal, since I was a young man.

私は、トルコのカッパドキアやネパールのカトマンズみたいに興味深い場所に関して、常に学んできた。

♠：Those places are not as common as London and Paris among the world travelers I know.

そう言う場所は、私の知っている世界を旅する人達の間では、ロンドンやパリほど一般的ではないですね。

♦：I have been reading National Geographic and other travel magazines over the years. Also, I am an amateur photographer.　

私は長年ナショナルジオグラフィックや旅行マガジンを読んで来た。また、私は素人カメラマンだ。

♠：It all sounds great, but I guess it is going to cost a lot of money to do all that.

中々良い話ですが、それだけの事をするには、先立つお金が沢山必要ですね。（cost a lot of money：たくさんのお金がかかる）

♦：That’s why I am saying it is a part of my dream, after I retire. But money is no object. I wanna see Cappadocia from the hot air balloon and visit underground caves and fairy chimneys.

だから、私はリタイアしてからの夢だと言っているだろ。また、金はどうでも良い。私は気球からカッパドキアを見たいし無数の洞窟とかフェアリーチムニーを見たい。（fairy chimneys：妖精の煙突と呼ばれるカッパドギアで見られる奇岩）

♠：The Himalayas would be on the top of my list.　

私はヒマラヤが一番に行きたい所です。

♦：You know Kathmandu is the starting point for the Himalayan climb. Also, you know ‘the most mysterious and unexplored regions on earth’ get us excited and there are so many of them in the world.　

カトマンズはヒマラヤ登山の入口と言う事は知っているだろ。最も神秘的な秘境は我々をわくわくさせるし、そんな場所が世界には沢山ある。

♠：Perito Moreno Glacier in Argentina would be another one on my list.　

アルゼンチンのぺリトモレノ氷河にもぜひ行ってみたいです。

♦：Exactly. The glacier consists of 250 km2 of ice that is 30km long and 60m high. Also, My wife and I have never been to places like Angkor Wat in Cambodia and the Maldive Islands.　

そうだな、その氷河は250キロ平米の広さで30キロの長さ、海面から60メートルの高さがあるらしい。あと妻と私はカンボジアのアンコールワットやモルジブ諸島にも行ってない。（km2：square kilometer）

♠：Yeah, they say that some of these glaciers might not be there when I retire.

私がリタイアする頃には、残ってない氷河があるかも知れないと言われています.（ぺリトモレノ氷河は、唯一温暖化の影響を受けていないと言われています）。

♦：Of course, I don’t wanna miss the Amazons. And the ultimate dream of mine would be to spend six months with my wife on the cruise ship traveling around the world.　

もちろん、アマゾン流域にも行ってみたい。また、究極の夢は、ワイフと６カ月かけて世界一周クルーズをする事だ。
