Sen no rikiyu is a famous tea master during the Azuchi-momoyama period, who invented Wabi-cha,” which became the origin of modern tea ceremony.
千利休は安土桃山時代の茶人で、現代茶道の様式の起源となる「侘び茶」を完成させました
Sen no rikyu also introduced “Shiki shi-chi soku,” the rules of tea ceremony.
千利休は茶道の心得を「四規七則」と説きました
“Shiki” refers to the spirit of “Wakei sei-jyaku.”
「四規」は、和敬清寂の精神のことを指します
“Wa, Kei, Sei, Jyaku” form thebasic philosophy of Sado, stating the importance of purifying the atmosphere of the ceremony to soothe the guest’s heart.
「和」「敬」「清」「寂」とは、互いの心を和らげてつつしみ敬い、茶室の品々や雰囲気を清浄な状態に保つことを意味する茶道哲学です
“Wa” o open each other’s heart.
「和」お互いに心を開くこと
“Kei” o respect each other.
「敬」お互いを敬うこと
“Seu” o purify your surrounding and your spirit.
「清」身の回り、そして心の中を清く保こと
“Jyaku” o maintain a spirit of quietness.
「寂」何事にも動じないこと
“Shichi soku” are the seven rules that the master of the ceremony must follow when welcoming his/her guests.
「七則」は、客人をもてなすときの７つの心構えを指します。
One: make the tea as if you understand your guest’s feeling.
一、茶は服のよきように点て 茶は相手の気持ちを察し、よく考えて点てること
Two: prior to the ceremony, master of the ceremony must be prepared for the ceremony.
二、炭は湯の沸くように置き 客人をもてなすにあたって準備や段取りをしっかりと行うこと
Three: feel the beauty and the dignity as it is.
三、花は野にあるように ありのままであるもの美しさと尊さを感じること
Four: serve your guests that matches the season.
四、夏は涼しく冬暖かに 相手のことを想い、四季にあったおもてなしをすること
Five: don’t rush the time.
五、刻限は早めに 時間と心にはゆとりを持つこと
Six: be prepared for the worst situation.
六、降らずとも傘の用意 客人の憂いを想定して準備をすること
Seven: greet your guests from bottom your heart.
七、相客に心せよ 客人に心からのおもてなしをすること
