●「盆踊り」について説明してみましょう！
In Japan, Bon odori is always held at festivals.
日本では祭りの時に盆踊りが催されます
Bon odori is a dance meant to hold a memorial service for the dead during the Bon period.
盆踊りとは、盆の時期に死者を供養するための踊りです
When performing Bon odori, a tower is built in the center of an open space. On the top of the tower, there is a leader who sings a leading note for the song. Then, other participants will dance along with the song while moving around the tower.
盆踊りでは広場の中央にやぐらを立て、やぐらの上で音頭とりが音頭を歌い、参加者はその周囲を回りながら音頭にあわせて踊ります
●「みこし」について説明してみましょう！
Mikoshi, a portable shrine, is a carriage for Gods.
みこしは神様の乗り物です
At festivals, Japanese people gather around the Mikoshi and carry it on their shoulders in order to worship gods.
日本人は、祭りで神様を称えるために、みこしをかついでまわります
While carrying the Mikoshi, the carriers often yell “Wasshoi, Wasshoi.”
みこしをかつぐ時は「わっしょい、わっしょい」などの掛け声をかけます
●祭りの衣装
Japanese people who carry a portable shrine wear Happi and a headband with decorated patterns.
日本人ははっぴを着て、豆絞りのハチマキを巻いてみこしをかつぎます
Happi is a traditional Japanese outfit with the Chinese character for the word “Festival” written on the back. Carriers of the portable shrines also wear traditional Japanese socks on their feet.
はっぴは日本の伝統衣装で、背中に「祭」の文字が書かれています。足元には足袋を履きます
