With the privatization to JR, many trains (as follows) started going through to Kyoto Station: the overnight train service bound for Kyushu, which was departing from and arriving at Shin-Osaka; the limited express starting from Tennoji Station for Nanki; and the limited express 'Hakuto,' bound for Sanin district, which started operation with the establishment of Chizu Express Co., Ltd., thus generating a dramatic increase in the number of trains running in this section.

The semi-express trains are operated between Kyoto Station and Shin-Tanabe Station, although the number of trains operated is small because this type is operated only at a 30-minute interval during the rush hours.

The train is operated once or twice an hour (once to three times an hour between Kusatsu Station and Kibugawa Station).

The frequency of service is once or twice per hour.

Local trains require transfer at Hamada Station or Gotsu Station, and the amount of local train service is extremely small from Hamada Station westward.

Because Shimonoseki City area, especially Ogushi Station southward, is included in the Kitakyushu Metropolitan Area (Kanmon Metropolitan Area), the number of services and cars per train increases in this area and the frequency of service is about once per hour.

Between Nagata Station and Ikoma Station, a maximum of 14 trains an hour run during the rush hours and eight trains during the less busy times of day, while between Ikoma Station and Gakken-Nara-Tomigaoka Station eight trains an hour run during the rush hours and four trains run during the less busy times of day.

Number of times the train is operated

When the Maizuru Expressway (the present Maizuru Wakasa Expressway) opened in the late 1980s, the expressway bus service was operated (by West JR Bus Company and Shinki Bus) in the section between Osaka and Fukuchiyama, but the operation was ended several years later because the number of bus services and passengers was low.

Number of operations

In the sections where many buses are operated, one of the lanes is set for exclusive use by buses during the morning and evening rush hours, but so far the provision of them hasn't been effective because general vehicles run or park in the lanes, violating the rule (particularly around Shijo-Kawaramachi Station on the weekends, one of the lanes is entirely occupied by vehicles illegally parked there, and confrontations with police officers are always a concern, thus constituting a big obstacle in the operation of buses as scheduled).

Those buses are operated relatively frequently every day.

Immediately after it occurred, all trains on the line were stopped, and no serious damage was incurred, also because the number of trains operated was small (two trains an hour in one direction).

Regarding the number of direct rapid trains, there are four from Nara to Amagasaki, and there are four from Amagasaki to Nara in the evening.

Frequency of service: Every 20 minutes from 6:30 am to 10:00 pm (additional trains provided during Sennichi Mairi (literally, A Thousand Days of Prayer)

Frequency of service: Every 15 to 30 minutes from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm (additional trains provided during Sennichi Mairi)

Although there are more bus stops than previously for these two daytime express buses bound for Kyoto, the number of daily services remains unchanged at two a day on both routes.
