The station is located soon after turning near a sign that reads 'Shimo-Amazu Station,' a short distance along Kyoto Prefectural Route 529 (Omiya Shimo-Amazu Route) which is found after turning off National Route 175 at the Shimo-Amazu intersection.

There is a slight slope from the entrance on the National Route side on the west up to the Kurama-bound Platform 4, which is wheelchair-accessible.

The station faces National Route 367, and to the south of the station and over the railway tracks lies an elevated bridge of Shirakawa-dori Street, which diverges from the National Route.

The area around the station except along the National Route comprises small residential areas between the station and the mountains.

Ohara-kaido (National Route 367) is about 100 meters to the south of Miyake-bashi Bridge over the Takano-gawa River (Kyoto City).

The station lies under the Tenjingawa-oike crossing at Oike-dori Street and Tenjingawa-dori Street (National Route 162).

In Japan, the Keihan Keishin Line is the only one that serves as three different types of tracks: a subway, a mountain railway and a tram; a vehicle consisting of four cars enters a subway (Tozai Line of the Kyoto Municipal Subway) in the central part of Kyoto City (not a mutual entry but a single entry of the Keihan Keishin Line), runs through a steep curve and slope like a mountain railway near Osakayama, which used to be the hilliest part of the Kyu-Tokaido (the former Tokaido) on the boundary of Kyoto Prefecture and Shiga Prefecture, and runs like a tram along National Route 161 in the central part of Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture (between Misasagi Station shared with the Tozai Line of the Kyoto Municipal Subway, and Kyu-Misasagi-fudo Fumikiri (Railroad Crossing at the former Kyoto Prefecture Route of Misasagi) (Sanjo-dori Street) runs a subway).

Higashiyama-sanjo Station was a stop provided on Sanjo-dori Street (the old National Route 1).

Keage Station was a stop provided on the tramway that ran on the Sanjo-dori Street (old National Route 1).

During World War II, the pavement ratio of even National Routes was very low, and the improvement of roads for automobiles was not promoted well.

The Kinya magazine in Nakamiya was converted to the Komatsu Ltd. Osaka factory and since October 1967 the major local road, Minakuchi-Hirakata Road (upgraded to National Route 307 on April 1, 1970), was converted to a Bypass.

Thereafter, trains pass over the Shinkawa River (Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture), National Road 302 and arrive at the Haruta Station.

However, the atmosphere of the surrounding area is hardly that of an area near a station, and a large-scale supermarket with a vast parking space is located across National Route one.

Trains run side by side along National Route one and the National route twenty-three and arrive at Tomidahama Station.

After Kameyama, trains run side by side along National Route one and arrive at the Seki Station (Mie Prefecture).
