FUJIWARA no Masatada and FUJIWARA no Yasutada were his brothers, FUJIWARA no Mitsunobu was his son, and Murasaki Shikibu was his niece's granddaughter.
It is said that this is because IKEDA got interestedin 'the original book' which Murasaki Shikibu wrote after the completion of this work, which tentativelyperfected the study of the Aobyoshi-bon and the Kawachi-bon, and the results of the work revealed the changes in the text of The Tale of Genji before the Aobyoshi-bon and the Kawachi-bon were made.
It contains almostall volumes of Genji monogatari emaki and manyimportant pictures, centeringon the ones in the early time, suchas Ban Dainagon Emaki (illustrated scroll of the story of acourtier Ban Dainagon), Shigisan engi emaki, Murasakishikibu Nikki Emaki (illustrated scroll of the Lady Murasaki's Diary), Makura no Soshi Ekotoba (Picture scrolls of scenes from the pillowbook of Sei Shonagon), and soon.
The date is basedon the appearance of phrases suchas 'Wakamurasaki' (Lady Murasaki) and 'Genji' in the entry for December 7, 1008 of "Murasaki Shikibu nikki" (Diary of Lady Murasaki Shikibu).
